Helicobacter pylori ist ein Bakterium, das eine Infektion der Magenschleimhaut hervorrufen kann.

Das stäbchenförmige Bakterium lebt auf und in der Magenschleimhaut, wo es trotz des sauren Milieus überleben kann. Obwohl die Patienten in der Regel keine Beschwerden haben, kann der Befall zu Folgeerkrankungen, wie Magenschleimhautschäden und Geschwüren im oberen Magen-Darm-Trakt führen.

Die Helicobacter-pylori-Infektion erhöht das Risiko von Magenkrebs und Lymphdrüsenkrebs im Magen (MALT-Syndrom).[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29]
