Das Elektrokardiogramm - kurz: EKG - ist die Aufzeichnung von elektrischen Signalen zur Beobachtung des Herzens.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23] Das Verfahren geht auf eine Entdeckung des italienischen Physikers und Neurophysiologen Carlo Matteucci 1843 zurück, der an Tauben beobachtete, dass die Herztätigkeit durch elektrische Signale gesteuert wird. 1882 wurde an einem Hund Jimmy das erste EKG durchgeführt. Heutzutage wird das EKG elektronisch aufgezeichnet und kann am Bildschirm angezeigt werden. Es dient der medizinischen Vorsorge und und auch der Überwachung bei Operationen sowie der Beobachtung im Leistungssport.
